The speech highlighted the differences between Quatrefolic® and folic acid and the importance of reduced and active folate.
Through the webinar, Luca Tiano, Professor of Nutrigenetic and Nutrigenomic at the Polytechnic University of Marche, and Silvia Pisoni, Global Market Manager, illustrate all the benefits of Quatrefolic®, the biologically active form of folate, that is absorbed directly by our body and is naturally effective.
They highlighted that in vivo, the body converts dietary folic acid and food folates to 5-MTHF (also named L-methylfolate, or 5-methyltetrahydrofolate) through a multi-step process where the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) enzyme owns a key role. However, unlike food folates, folic acid must be reduced to tetrahydrofolate in a two-step reaction via dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) and then further metabolized. For those reasons, active folate is the right choice, Quatrefolic® being the best one.
