Scientific Seminar on Active Folate in Pregnancy
A scientific seminar focused on the importance of active folate supplementation during pregnancy was recently held in South Africa, organized by ProBitec. The event attracted approximately 350 healthcare professionals, including clinic and nursing practitioners from baby clinics, private hospitals, and pharmacies.
The seminar featured a keynote presentation by Professor Luca Tiano, who shared the latest scientific insights into the role of active folate in maternal and fetal health. His presentation emphasized the superior bioavailability of active folate forms compared to traditional folic acid, highlighting their importance in supporting proper neural tube development and reducing the risk of pregnancy-related complications.
Prof. Tiano also addressed the challenges associated with folic acid metabolism, particularly in women with genetic variants that may impair its conversion to its active form. He explained how supplementation with active folate can help ensure optimal folate levels, supporting both mother and baby throughout pregnancy.
The event was highly engaging, with strong participation from attendees, reflecting the growing interest among healthcare professionals in advanced nutritional solutions for prenatal care. The seminar reinforced the importance of continued education and collaboration in promoting best practices for maternal health.
